Use it riding the train! Simple Japanese

Did you ever got in trouble riding Japanese train, thinking "what can I do?"
Common practice for Japanese train is different from the ones of other countries in surprising ways.
Let us introduce some simple Japanese that might be useful when you get in trouble riding Japanese train!

If you need to ask a question:

Approach to someone close to a map!

If you need to ask about the location, approach to them near the map, or have map ready in your hand. They will be able to point you on the map, even if both of you cannot speak each others' language.

Ask the station staffs!

Please ask them whenever you have any problem.

Speak slowly when you talk!

Even the Japanese people fluent to foreign language, it is hard to understand the speaking of native speaker.
Speak very slowly, and have a smooth and pleasant conversation.

I am having trouble with XX. What can I do?

If you have any problem, please go to the information booth at the station.
If you need to ask where the information booth is, go near the information map in the station, and ask

An nai jo wa doko desu ka? Where is the information desk?

to someone near you.


I need to go to XX Station. Is this the right train?

If you are not sure that the train you are about to get on will take you to the right station, ask

Ko no den sha wa XX eki ni iki masu ka? Would this train go to XX Station?

to someone near you.
